PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan highlighted the impact of the extreme weather that has hit the Greater Bandung area over the past week. He assessed that the intensity of the events could no longer be considered normal.

"Throughout last week, hundreds of trees fell, not only in Bandung City but throughout Greater Bandung," said Farhan at the Bandung City Hall, Wednesday (8/4/2026).

Although the extreme weather conditions are expected to subside, Farhan said vigilance remains crucial. He even assessed that the situation is approaching disaster status.

"For me, this is not just extreme weather but is approaching disaster," he stressed.

As a precautionary measure, the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) together with the police, especially the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) will immediately conduct patrols to check for trees that are at risk of falling.

This step was taken to prevent similar incidents from recurring, while minimizing risks to public safety.

Furthermore, Farhan emphasized the importance of a more comprehensive approach to addressing the impacts of climate change. He stated that mitigation cannot be carried out sectorally but rather requires the involvement of various relevant institutions.

"We will take a more holistic approach with various parties," he said.

Meanwhile, the community alert system is being reactivated. One future focus will be strengthening monitoring points, or streaming points, to monitor conditions in the field in real time, as well as disaster mitigation through the Disaster Alert Neighborhood Security System (Siskamling Siaga Bencana).

"My priorities going forward are streaming point monitoring points and disaster mitigation through the Disaster Alert Neighborhood Security System," he said. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
