PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan hopes that every neighborhood association (RW) in Bandung will have fire sprinklers. This will serve as a measure for early detection and prevention of fires, especially in densely populated areas.
A fire sprinkler is part of a fire extinguishing system that uses a network of pipes and pumps to deliver water directly to the fire. This device helps control fires quickly before they spread.
"This sprinkler is a high-pressure pipe that can help firefighters quickly access water. If every neighborhood unit (RW) had one, response could be faster and losses could be minimized," said Farhan during a Disaster Alert Neighborhood Security (Siskamling) in Kebon Pisang Village, Sumur Bandung District, Friday (10/17/2025).
He said that the high level of activity among residents in Bandung means that the potential for fires needs to be monitored.
Therefore, he asked each RW together with Linmas and residents to be active in patrolling the environment and ensuring that security systems and simple fire extinguishers are available.
"The key is early detection and prevention. Linmas (Community Protection) needs to conduct regular patrols, record environmental conditions, and prepare an emergency alert for any signs of fire," he added.
In addition to sprinklers, the Bandung City Government will also continue to encourage public education regarding household fire prevention and increasing citizen preparedness.
"We want Bandung to be a safe and disaster-responsive city, including fires. This is not just the government's responsibility, but our shared responsibility," he said. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
