PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Residents of Giriawas Village, Cikajang District, repaired the Giriawas-Barusuda district road independently to support access to education and the community's economy (21/7/2026).

The road repairs involved various elements of the community with the procurement of building materials originating from community self-help.

Giriawas Village Head Deni Sunjani said that the mutual cooperation was carried out because the road is an important access for the community's daily activities.

"This road repair activity not only relies on volunteer labor from residents, but also includes the procurement of building materials collected through community self-help," he said.

He explained that road repairs had begun on (7/7/2026) and the work progress had reached around 1.2 kilometers.

Deni said the Giriawas-Barusuda section is the main educational route used daily by around 1,600 students from SMAN 4 Garut, as well as students from four elementary schools and two junior high schools.

"The high level of public enthusiasm is not without reason. The Giriawas-Barusuda road section is a vital access point and the lifeblood of education in the area. Every day, this road is used by the mobility of thousands of students, including around 1,600 students from SMAN 4 Garut, as well as students from 4 elementary schools (SD) and 2 junior high schools (SMP) located around the area. Decent road conditions are highly desired so that students and educators can travel safely and comfortably, so that the teaching and learning process at various levels of the school can run optimally," said Deni.

In addition to supporting the educational and economic activities of residents, road repairs were carried out to welcome the national-level Marching Skills Competition which will be held in Giriawas Village at the end of 2026.

Deni said that the Giriawas Village Government had proposed road repairs through the Regional Government Information System for three consecutive years.

According to him, residents chose to make temporary repairs because the road conditions required immediate attention before permanent construction could be carried out.

This mutual cooperation action is a form of community concern in maintaining public access while simultaneously encouraging the acceleration of road infrastructure development.
