PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the West Java Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) released an early warning map of heavy rain accompanied by lightning in the northern region of West Java, including Indramayu, Cirebon, Majalengka and Kuningan.
Rain can also spread to the surrounding areas, such as Subang, Sumedang, Bandung, and Ciamis today, Tuesday (3/18/2025), until 17:00 WIB. The condition arose due to the presence of tropical cyclone seed 91S.
Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati in her press release explained that based on the analysis as of March 17, 2025, at 07.00 WIB, tropical cyclone seed 91S had emerged with a maximum wind speed of 15 knots (28 km per hour) and a minimum air pressure of 1010 hPa.
The cyclone seed is moving away from Indonesian territory. However, its impacts are still being felt in several areas, especially Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, DKI Jakarta, and West Java, which have the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain.
In addition, high waves are predicted to occur in the Indian Ocean south of Banten to West Nusa Tenggara, potentially experiencing high waves reaching 2.5 - 4 meters.
Dwikorita emphasized that although the cyclone seed did not enter Indonesian territory, its impact was still significant. Therefore, BMKG appealed to the public to be more careful of the potential for heavy rain, strong winds, floods, landslides and fallen trees.
Communities living in disaster-prone areas are expected to take anticipatory steps to reduce the risks that may arise. In addition, activities in water areas also need to be limited considering the potential for high waves that can endanger shipping.
"To the local government, we hope that this early warning can be responded to and heeded, and that anticipatory steps can be taken immediately. Coordination with related agencies, such as BPBD, is very important to ensure that mitigation efforts are effective and that a quick response can be made if a disaster occurs," he said.
Dwikorita emphasized the importance of travelers' readiness in facing uncertain weather conditions. BMKG provides real-time weather information through the Digital Weather for Traffic (DWT) platform. This information is expected to help travelers plan their trips more safely and comfortably.
To improve travel safety, BMKG also collaborates with BNPB, BPBD, Ministry of Transportation, and transportation operators to minimize the impact of bad weather.
In addition, the Weather Modification Operation (OMC) is prepared on standby to anticipate the potential for extreme weather on the main homecoming routes.
BMKG urges the public to continue monitoring weather developments via the BMKG website, InfoBMKG application, official social media, as well as SMS Blast and Call Center 196 services.
With the support of accurate weather information, it is hoped that the 2025 Eid homecoming trip will be safe and smooth.
