PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Head of the West Java Health Service, Vini Adiani Dewi, reminded the public to be aware of post-Eid diseases. Even trivial violations can have fatal consequences, especially for residents who already have congenital diseases.
Some typical post-Eid diseases that you need to watch out for are high cholesterol, stomach ulcers and GERD, diarrhea, as well as flu and coughs.
These diseases usually arise due to excessive eating patterns in the first seven days after stopping fasting. The condition of the stomach and digestive system which has been trained to be empty for a month, suddenly being filled with large and heavy portions of food, can cause diarrhea.
Meanwhile, fatty and coconut milk foods such as opor ayam or ase chili, or rendang, if consumed in excess can cause high cholesterol, ulcers and GERD.
Meanwhile, flu and coughs usually arise because the body is too tired from social gatherings and going home and cannot tolerate extreme weather conditions.
"Flues and coughs to diarrhea and ulcers, these are the things that often arise due to random eating and changes in the weather at homecoming locations. Especially for those returning home to the North Coast region," said Vini Adiani Dewi, Saturday (13/4/2024).
Vini also reminded diabetes sufferers to limit eating ketupat which tends to be dense carbohydrates, as well as eating cakes and drinking sweet drinks.
"Especially for those who have diabetes, eat carbohydrates and sweet things to control them," he said.
Apart from diabetes, hypertension or high blood pressure also needs to be watched out for because if food is not controlled and causes blood pressure to rise, it can lead to stroke.
Another disease after Eid that you need to watch out for, said Vini, is gout which is caused by consuming too much red meat, nuts and offal.
Lastly, the latent disease in West Java is dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), which is usually contracted in your hometown or when you are visiting relatives and friends' homes.
Vini advises residents, especially those who already have a history of these diseases, to limit foods that doctors recommend avoiding.
Try to consume healthy foods with balanced nutrition, eat vegetables and fruit rich in fiber for digestive health, and drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
"It is also important to stay active and exercise to maintain body balance and reduce the risk of disease after Eid," said Vini.
According to Vini, it is important to maintain people's health because after Eid they should not be unable to productively go to work or do business because they are sick from overeating.
