PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Tourism in West Java continues to show a positive trend with an increasing number of tourist visits throughout 2024. This was revealed in the Official Statistical News released by the West Java Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Monday (3/2/2025).

The latest data from BPS Jabar recorded a significant spike, especially from domestic tourists (wisnus), which experienced rapid growth compared to the previous year.

According to the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of West Java, Herman Suryatman, the increase in the number of tourists will mainly occur at the end of 2024, coinciding with the Christmas and New Year holidays which coincide with the long school holidays.

Cumulatively, the number of domestic tourist trips to West Java from January to December 2024 reached 167.40 million trips. This figure shows an increase of 7.15 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

"The cumulative number of visits in the period from January to December 2024 is the highest achievement since 2019," said Head of BPS West Java, Darwis Sitorus.

Significant Increase in December 2024

Darwis Sitorus also revealed that the number of domestic tourist trips to West Java in December 2024 reached 17.34 million trips. This figure increased by 26.98 percent compared to November 2024, which recorded 13.66 million trips. When compared to December 2023 on an annual basis (year-on-year), there was an increase of 1.39 percent.

Conceptually, domestic tourists (wisnus) are Indonesian citizens (WNI) who travel across district/city boundaries within the territory of Indonesia, with the provision that the trip is not carried out routinely, is outside the daily environment, and has a duration of less than 12 months.

Domestic tourists must also stay or reside for at least six hours in the destination district/city, with the purpose of the trip not being to work or attend school on a regular basis.

"The domestic tourist data presented comes from Mobile Positioning Data (MPD) recorded by certain providers, then adjusted with a multiplier factor based on the results of the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas)," said Darwis.

Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourists (wisman) entering West Java through Kertajati International Airport in December 2024 was recorded at 337 visits. This number decreased by 54.15 percent compared to November 2024.

Foreign tourists from Singapore dominated visits with a contribution of 47.77 percent, followed by tourists from Malaysia at 6.23 percent. Cumulatively, the number of foreign tourist visits to West Java during January–December 2024 reached 10,309 visits.

Room Occupancy Rate and Length of Stay

The increase in the number of tourist visits is also reflected in the increase in the Room Occupancy Rate (TPK). In December 2024, the TPK of hotels in West Java reached 47.87 percent, up 5.15 points compared to November 2024.

The average length of stay for guests in starred hotels in December 2024 was recorded at 1.39 nights, while in non-starred hotels it reached 1.08 nights. The average length of stay for foreign guests reached 2.90 nights, while domestic guests stayed for an average of 1.29 nights.

With this increasing trend of tourist visits, it is hoped that the tourism sector in West Java will continue to develop and have a positive impact on the regional economy.
