PORTALJABAR, BOGOR CITY - The Bogor City Government together with PT Mitra Natura Raya held a clean-up of the Ciliwung River in commemoration of Earth Day, Saturday (25/4/2026).

The activity involved elements of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) as well as volunteers who cleaned up the trash in the Ciliwung River from Soedjana Kassan Park to the Otista Bridge.

Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim said this activity was a reminder for the community to better protect the environment, especially rivers which play an important role in life.

He admitted that he was concerned to see that many people were still throwing rubbish carelessly into the river.

"But our attitudes and behaviors are still often cruel. We fail to show gratitude to nature, which has given us so much. What's the proof? Today, in two hours, we managed to collect 1.2 tons of trash," he said.

During the activity, Dedie Rachim and other participants also helped lift rubbish that had been carried by the current, caught on rocks, and piled up on the riverbanks.

He said the waste found was not only plastic, but also diapers, used clothes, and even mattresses.

Seeing this condition, Dedie Rachim asked the public to stop throwing rubbish carelessly, especially into rivers.

He emphasized that the Bogor City Government continues to encourage waste management from its source through sorting and processing waste that still has useful value.

"We will strengthen the TPS3R, we will strengthen waste banks, and environmental groups will become strategic partners of the Bogor City Government," he stressed.

In addition, the waste residue from waste sorting in the area will be processed into electrical energy so that the amount of waste disposed of at the Final Disposal Site (TPA) can be continuously reduced.

"By 2028, Bogor has the potential to process at least 1,000 tons of waste per day," he explained.

Meanwhile, PT Mitra Natura Raya representative Abi Irawan said that his party also involved the younger generation in the activity to increase their concern for environmental conditions.

"The younger generation must be involved, because in the future they will be the ones who will continue the struggle to protect the environment," he said.
