PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has reopened Bandung Square after evaluating and repairing a number of facilities since January 2026.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan officially reopened Bandung Square during the People's Festival of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 2026.
"Thank God, today we can re-inaugurate the town square, which I've been evaluating since last January. It's ready now," said Farhan.
Farhan requested that the area be managed sustainably to ensure the cleanliness and facilities of Bandung Square are maintained after it reopens.
"The message is to the Head of the Housing and Settlement Agency and the Head of Balonggede Village to form a team whose task is to clean up the area while educating the public about maintaining this town square," he said.
This special team will maintain cleanliness and educate visitors about the orderly use of public space facilities.
The Bandung City Government also regulates access to the park by opening one gate to maintain the safety and order of visitors.
"Only one door will be opened. This will be technically regulated by the DPKP and the sub-district. For the sake of security and order," he said.
Farhan emphasized that street vendors (PKL) are not allowed to sell in the Bandung Square park area.
"PKL are not allowed to enter the park. Obviously, definitely," he said.
The public can still use Bandung Square as a space to gather, play, and carry out activities with family and community.
"The public is welcome to utilize this public open space, a legacy from the founders of Bandung City, as a truly shared open space," he said.
Farhan invited residents to enjoy the area while adhering to the applicable rules while using public facilities.
"Bade ameng, bade botram, bade piknik mangga, but still follow the rules," he said.
"We want this park to be a park that will always make all Bandung residents happy and free of charge," he said.
Bandung Square Park is open from 08.00 to 16.00 WIB so the public cannot access the area 24 hours a day.
Farhan explained that the previous closure was carried out after various public complaints emerged that required repairs in December 2025 and January 2026.
"Why was it closed yesterday? Because there were many complaints from December to January that it hadn't been resolved, so I closed it down and fixed it," he explained.
The Bandung City Government hopes that Bandung Square can remain open permanently as long as the facilities are well maintained and no new problems arise.
"Hopefully, if nothing else needs repair, we will remain open permanently. But only from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.," he concluded.
