PORTALJABAR, BOGOR CITY - Colon cancer is a dangerous disease that causes sufferers to be unable to defecate and urinate through the anus. To prevent the disease, consuming healthy foods and regular exercise are a must.
Head of the Bogor City Health Service, Sri Nowo Retno, said that in many cases, the cause of colon cancer or intestinal cancer is a diet low in fiber due to minimal consumption of vegetables and fruit.
However, there are various other factors that can trigger someone to experience colon cancer.
Colon cancer patients need to have a stoma or hole made in the abdominal wall as a channel for the disposal of feces and urine. In Bogor, one of the health centers that handles stoma wound care is Wocare Clinic in Kayumanis Village, Tanah Sareal District, Bogor City.
Sri invites everyone to love health, maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce consumption of unhealthy foods.
"The risk of colon cancer can be prevented or minimized with a healthy lifestyle and consumption of healthy foods," he said.
Wocare Center CEO Widasari Sri Gitarja, said that there are five diseases that can cause wounds and can be treated by Wocare.
"Then there are also quite a lot of cancer wounds, including ostomate stoma. It turns out that many cases also occur in children," he said when met at Bogor City Hall after meeting with Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim, Tuesday (6/5/2025).
Wocare employee Tuti Widiastuti, who also has a stoma, shared her story about her experience when she was diagnosed with colon or colorectal cancer.
Tuti, who is also an influencer on social media TikTok with the account name @Tutyostomate, often shares health tips, motivation and
passion for people with stoma.
Ostomate is the term for people who have undergone stoma surgery.
Tuti said that for years she often consumed instant noodles, fast food and grilled food which can cause carcinogenic compounds (cancer-causing).
"The cause of the cancer I experienced was lifestyle, unhealthy eating patterns, lack of fiber in foods, lack of vegetables, fruit, and very little exercise," he said.
From the diet and lifestyle that had accumulated over the years, at the age of 25, precisely in 2008, Tuti was diagnosed with
diagnosed with colon cancer after undergoing laboratory tests.
Initially, he experienced bloody bowel movements (BAB) like hemorrhoids. Then, the bowel movements were like goat feces and often felt pain in the stomach. The bowel movements that were initially every day changed to three times a day, even once a week.
He then underwent surgery for colon cancer and underwent a stoma creation procedure.
"Thank God, the cancer has been cured, but I do use a stoma, because humans also need a waste disposal system. Well, that's why I made a stoma in my stomach. Thank God, the stoma is fine," he said.
As a stoma sufferer, Tuti, who initially received wound care at Wocare in 2009, now works as a receptionist and assists other stoma sufferers.
According to him, the thing that is most needed by people who are experiencing a stoma for the first time is motivation and enthusiasm for life.
He also invited everyone to regularly consume vegetables and fruit, exercise, and live a healthy lifestyle.
