PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is preparing tourism infrastructure and promotions ahead of the reactivation of Husein Sastranegara International Airport.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said the airport reactivation was the result of collaboration between the Bandung City Government, the West Java Provincial Government, and the central government.

"I want this to be a good experience. From the beginning, we've been working together to get Husein Sastranegara Airport operational again. We share the responsibility with Governor Dedi Mulyadi. I'm keeping this idea alive, while he's communicating with the central government," Farhan said at Bandung City Hall on Wednesday (July 29, 2026).

This effort gained ground after the issuance of a Presidential Instruction on May 26, 2026, to expedite the re-operation of Husein Sastranegara Airport.

Farhan believes that Bandung City's readiness must go hand in hand with flight readiness to ensure passengers have a comfortable travel experience.

"Don't let arriving or departing passengers feel like Bandung isn't ready. Don't let the access roads be damaged, parking be disorganized, or transportation services be inadequate. First impressions are crucial," he said.

Therefore, Farhan instructed the Bandung City Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSDABM) to complete repairs to the road sections around Husein Airport.

The Bandung City Government is also preparing tourism promotions to attract tourists and increase economic activity once commercial flights resume operations.

Farhan believes that the relatively high price of plane tickets is a challenge, so Bandung must offer an attractive tourism experience for potential visitors.

"We, along with the economic team and the Department of Culture and Tourism, are designing various promotional programs to give people a reason to come to Bandung. So, they won't just be flying to Bandung; they'll also be experiencing tourism, culinary delights, shopping, and various exciting activities that are unique to Bandung," he said.

The promotion will involve tourism, creative economy, business, and media players to ensure the wider community feels the economic benefits of airport reactivation.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi is optimistic that Husein Sastranegara Airport will once again attract international tourists, especially from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam.

According to Dedi, direct flights can extend tourists' stays while increasing hotel, restaurant, culinary, shopping, and other service activities.

"With Husein Airport, I'm sure tourists from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei will return. They'll stay longer in Bandung, enjoying culinary delights, shopping, using beauty services, and even staying at hotels. This will have a direct impact on increasing revenues in the hotel and restaurant sector," said Dedi.

Dedi also explained that the West Java Provincial Government and the central government agreed on a new direction for the development of the West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati.

In the future, Kertajati will be focused on being a center for the domestic defense industry to support the development of national strategic industries.

This division of roles places Husein Airport as a driver of connectivity and tourism, while Kertajati becomes the center of the defense industry.
