PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin attended the grand religious service commemorating the Birthday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW 1446 Hijri at the Grand Mosque of Bandung City, Tuesday (1/10/2024).
In his speech in front of around 2,000 worshippers, Bey urged that the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday should be a reminder to re-explore the noble values taught by the Prophet, especially in building a peaceful, just and prosperous society.
"Let's make this moment an encouragement to emulate the personality of the Prophet and apply it in our daily lives," he invited.
One of the Prophet's personalities that society should emulate is avoiding usury and all forms of injustice in economic transactions.
Bey said that one of the biggest challenges that has disturbed the stability of society recently is illegal online loans (pinjol).
High interest rates and inhumane loan collection methods have left many families in a slump.
"Therefore, we must be wiser and more careful in choosing financial solutions and strengthening financial education among the community," said Bey.
Likewise, online gambling is a serious threat that not only destroys morals but also the family economy.
"Islam very clearly forbids gambling because it will only increase poverty and social destruction," he said.
Bey then reminded the public to emulate the noble morals of the Prophet who was full of compassion and shun all forms of violence.
Prophet Muhammad SAW taught his people to always be gentle, patient, and prioritize dialogue.
The Sunnah of the Prophet, which rejects violence, must be the foundation for building a harmonious and peaceful society.
"Let's maintain the values of virtue and peace in order to maintain unity in West Java," Bey appealed.
