PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin appealed to Regents/Mayors to tighten permits for conducting study tours carried out by educational units in their respective regions.

This appeal is stated in a Circular Letter (SE), dated 12 May 2024. In this SE, the Acting Governor of West Java appealed to the Regents and Mayors to pay attention to three things when carrying out study tours.

First, educational unit study tour activities are encouraged to be carried out in cities within the West Java Province region through visits to science development centers
knowledge, cultural centers and local educational tourism destinations, which are intended to support local economic growth in West Java Province, except for educational units that have planned and carried out study tour cooperation contracts which will be carried out outside West Java Province and cannot be cancelled.

Second, study tour activities pay attention to the principles of benefit and safety for all
students, teachers and educational staff by paying attention to the readiness of the vehicle crew, the safety of the route that will be passed, as well as coordinating and obtaining recommendations from the district/city transportation service regarding the technical feasibility of the vehicle.

Third, the education unit and the foundation organizing the study tour coordinate by providing a notification letter to the appropriate education office
his authority.

The SE was published regarding the fatal accident of the Trans Putera Fajar bus carrying a group of Lingga Kencana Vocational School students, Depok City, which overturned in the Ciater area, Subang Regency, Saturday (11/5/2024).

The accident claimed the lives of 11 people, and dozens were injured. The number of victims who died consisted of nine students, one teacher and one resident of Subang.

The bus is estimated to carry 40-60 passengers, containing a group of students from Lingga Kencana Vocational School, who have been taking part in farewell activities in Bandung for two days.

"We convey our deepest condolences. We ensure that all hospital treatment costs are borne by the government and hospital services are carried out well," said Bey Machmudin when visiting Subang Regional Hospital, Sunday (12/5/2024) early morning.

The latest information is that all the victims who died have been taken to Depok City to be handed over to their respective families. Meanwhile, 12 seriously injured victims are still being treated at Subang Regional Hospital.

On that occasion, Bey also reminded, especially during the current school holiday season, that schools that will conduct tours or study tours should ensure the condition of the buses is suitable.

Bey also reminded bus companies to always regularly check the health of their vehicle fleet and ensure that drivers are in top condition and fit.
