PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. WEST BANDUNG - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin inspected the location of land movement in Cibedug Village, Rongga District, West Bandung Regency, Saturday (2/3/2024).
"Today I reviewed the land shift disaster in Cibedug Village, which occurred on February 19. But it turned out that a follow-up occurred on February 29 in the same location," said Bey when met.
Land movement disasters also occurred in Cibitung Village, Rongga District, West Bandung Regency. Although there were no casualties in this incident, dozens of houses and public facilities were affected, including school buildings that were destroyed and village roads cracked, resulting in 192 residents being displaced.
"Since there were signs of shifting (land) they (residents) have evacuated so thank God there were no casualties," he said.
After inspecting the location of the land movement, Bey spoke with the affected residents and will immediately find the best solution, whether they should relocate or stay there.
Bey said that he had coordinated with BNPB, BMKG and PVMBG to wait for the results of the quick assessment.
"Now, regarding relocation, whether they can return, we are waiting for the results of the assessment from BNPB, BMKG and also PVMBG tomorrow Monday. Based on the results, we will see whether they will be relocated or remain there, but the main thing is that the safety of the residents is the main thing," said Bey.
If later the results have to be relocated, Bey has spoken with the Head of BNPB and will help with residential relocation. However, the most important thing according to him is that the results of the assessment can come out more quickly so that the public can immediately get certainty.
"I also coordinated with the head of BNPB, after the results of the quick assessment, I would also provide assistance to the affected communities. Especially for relocation, BNPB will help to build houses," added Bey.
Not to forget, Bey also appealed to the public to always be alert to extreme weather, BMKG also predicts that high rainfall will occur until March-April.
"Yes, from the start, the BMKG predicted that extreme rainfall would occur from March to April. So you have to be careful and reduce outdoor activities, especially if it is raining, so it's best if there is rain or extreme weather, look for a safe place," he said.
He also appreciated the awareness of the people of Cibedug Village and Cibitung Village who wanted to evacuate after there were signs of land movement. This meant that there were no fatalities in the incident.
"And this is an example of how the community has anticipated and become aware that a disaster will occur and the community wants to work together to secure it. The main thing is security, the important thing is that the community immediately wants to evacuate after there are signs that the land will shift," concluded Bey.
