PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) moved quickly to handle the landslide disaster that occurred in Sukabumi Regency on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 19.00 WIB.
The West Java BPBD immediately coordinated with the Sukabumi Regency BPBD and local authorities to carry out emergency response efforts and evacuate affected residents.
Acting Head of West Java BPBD, Anne Hermadiane Adnan, explained that the landslide disaster was triggered by high intensity rain that poured over most of Sukabumi Regency. Heavy rain that fell since Thursday night caused flooding and landslides in several areas of Sukabumi Regency and City.
"The heavy rain that has poured down on Sukabumi Regency and City since Thursday night has caused flooding and landslides in a number of areas," said Anne, when contacted Friday (7/3/2025).
A number of sub-districts were affected by landslides and floods, including Kadudampit, Curugkembar, Simpenan, Waluran, Bantargadung, Warungkiara, Sagaranten, Lengkong, and Jampangtengah sub-districts.
The impact of this incident was quite significant. One victim died, a child with the initials NS. Five houses suffered minor damage, five other houses suffered severe damage, and eleven public facilities were affected. A total of 116 heads of families or 204 people were directly affected by this disaster.
Currently, seven people are still being searched for, consisting of two people in Simpenan District, three people in Lengkong District, and two people in Palabuhanratu District. Meanwhile, 31 heads of families or 159 people have fled to safer places.
The West Java BPBD together with the joint team continues to search and rescue efforts for residents who are still missing. In addition, the West Java BPBD also appealed to the public to remain vigilant against the potential for subsequent disasters and immediately report information on disasters or emergency conditions in their respective areas.
The West Java BPBD continues to deploy teams to help affected residents and ensure the safety of people in disaster-prone areas.
