PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - Bekasi Regent Ade Kuswara Kunang conducted a review of the landslide location at the Astom Residence Housing Complex, Bekasi Regency, Sunday (20/4/2025),
This review was in response to public reports regarding a two-story shophouse building that nearly collapsed due to erosion of the riverbank.
Ade highlighted the existence of buildings standing on the riverbank without foundation security. He considered the structure to have the potential to cause further landslides that endanger the safety of local residents.
"A two-story building like this should not stand without a safety foundation near a river," said Ade during a dialogue with residents at the scene.
As an initial step in handling the problem, Ade coordinated directly via video call with the Village Secretary (Sekdes) of Ciantra Triyono, in order to encourage the acceleration of retaining wall construction and integrated handling across sectors.
"This must be revetted first because it is located on the edge of the river. Although this is still the developer's domain, because it is in the Ciantra Village area, we must find a solution together," he said.
Ciantra Village Secretary Triyono, confirmed that the condition of the building was indeed increasingly neglected. He explained that previously there had been a landslide around the riverbank, which was then handled by the Village Government together with the Regional Government by deploying heavy equipment.
"As a form of our seriousness, under the leadership of Village Head Mulyadi Fernando, in the 2024 budget, polders, bridges, and stone gabions have been built as a measure to anticipate flooding," he said.
However, the village government has not been able to take direct action regarding the construction of retaining walls at the shophouse location, considering that the land still belongs to the developer and there is no official permit.
"We are ready to build the retaining wall, but have not received approval from the developer. We cannot dismantle or build without permission because it is the developer's area," he said.
Triyono added that his party continues to communicate with the District Government, Regional Government, and developer PT Astom Residence to find the best solution through deliberation.
Head of RT 05/RW 013 Astom Residence Irfan conveyed residents' concerns about the potential for flooding if the shophouse buildings really collapse into the river. He assessed that this condition could dam the river flow and impact other housing such as BCA, BCM, and Pesona.
"The building is hanging and very vulnerable. If it collapses into the river, it could cause flooding in the surrounding area," he said.
The emergency situation that occurred at the Astom Residence Housing Complex has become a serious concern for the Bekasi Regency Government (Pemdakab).
With the commitment of the regional government, village government, and support from residents and developers, it is hoped that handling efforts can be realized immediately.
Strategic steps such as the construction of retaining walls, demolition of dangerous buildings, and cross-sector coordination are key to preventing wider landslide paths and ensuring public safety. (Diskominfo Kab.Bekasi/UPI)
