PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan emphasized that waste management during the Eid season has only reached 60 percent of the target of 70 percent of empty TPS.
As mitigation, the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) will close the Temporary Waste Disposal Site (TPS) throughout Monday (31/3/2025).
"We will close the TPS first and not accept trash until the afternoon. Later in the afternoon, it will be opened to accept trash," said Farhan after the Eid prayer at the Al Ukhuwah Grand Mosque.
Farhan said that with the surge in immigrants returning to Bandung City and visiting tourists, it is predicted that there will be an increase in waste production.
"For example, last night it was 25-30 percent, like in Cicadas which usually only has 2 trips but it became 3 trips. This is because there are many piles of new garbage dumped on the side of the road," he said.
Farhan invited the public to sort waste starting from home and not to throw it on the side of the road.
"We hope that the community can process waste starting from the source," he said.
Regarding the surge in tourists, Farhan said that the city of Bandung is very open to visiting tourists.
"We cannot hold back the surge in tourists. We are ready to receive the tourists well," he said.
According to him, in the next 7 days it is estimated that there will be an increase of 1 million tourists visiting the city of Bandung.
"In the next 7 days there will be 1 million tourists. Whether they stay overnight or not and use private vehicles or public transportation," he said.
