PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - GARUT – Accurate data and indicators need to be applied as a basis for planning and evaluating regional development. Data is the starting point for every development target.

This was stated by the Head of BPS Garut Regency, Nevi Hendri, in the Socialization and Discussion of Reference Development Indicators for the 2025-2030 Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Garut Regency at the Mini Auditorium of Campus 4, Garut University (Uniga), Tuesday (6/5/2025).

According to him, if the government misreads the data, development targets will be slightly biased or not achieved.

"Bureaucrats do not have to understand statistical formulas in detail, but it is important to understand how to read and interpret the numbers as a basis for policy," said Nevi.

Nevi also conveyed the BPS's task in conducting sectoral statistical data development produced by SKPD. BPS is present to guide and assist SKPD in producing quality data.

He appreciated the existence of the statistics sector at the Garut Regency Communication and Information Service (Diskominfo) as a source of data improvement.

Nevi hopes that collaboration between BPS and all SKPDs can support the achievement of the vision and mission of the Regent and Deputy Regent of Garut.

Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin conveyed the importance of establishing clear and measurable development indicators so that the results of the local government's hard work can be seen and measured statistically. He acknowledged the confusion regarding development results that sometimes do not match the efforts that have been made.

"Yesterday I saw data from statistics that said that in Indonesia almost 60% are below the poverty line even though it was denied by BPS, only 20%. There are two possibilities here, first it is not counted and second it does not know how to count it," said Syakur.

Therefore, the Regent of Garut emphasized the importance of understanding how to calculate the Human Development Index (HDI) and the substance behind it.

The involvement of BPS is expected to ensure that the determination of indicators is carried out correctly and that development objectives can be directed.
