PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Service (Diskannak) of Garut Regency continues to tighten supervision of Poultry Slaughterhouses (RPU) to ensure the hygiene and quality of poultry meat circulating in the community.

Head of Animal Health Division of Garut Regency Agriculture and Livestock Service, drh. Agustina Dini Sapvita Pudiasari emphasized that poultry slaughtering must be carried out at the RPU in accordance with the provisions of Law Number 18 of 2009 concerning Animal Husbandry and Animal Health. Article 61 of the law states that the slaughtering of animals or poultry whose meat is distributed must meet the principles of veterinary public health and animal welfare.

"RPU has an important role in preventing the spread of zoonotic diseases and ensuring that the chicken meat produced meets the Safe, Healthy, Whole, and Halal (ASUH) standards," he said, Thursday (6/2/2025).

He emphasized that RPU is a crucial part of the poultry production chain.

"No matter how good the chicken maintenance is upstream, if the slaughtering process at the RPU does not meet standards, then the risk of spreading disease remains high," he said.

Obstacles to Supervision and Lack of Sanctions Agustina explained that supervision of RPU covers various aspects, from location cleanliness, building and equipment sanitation, to cutting procedures and worker cleanliness. To ensure these standards, routine supervision, inspections, and audits are needed.

However, he acknowledged that the implementation of supervision still faces obstacles, especially limited human resources and budget, resulting in a lack of public awareness and participation in carrying out supervision and reporting violations.

"There are no strict sanctions for entrepreneurs who do not comply with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in slaughtering poultry due to limited resources and budget," he said.

In addition, Diskannak also conducts routine inspections and laboratory tests to ensure that the meat in circulation is safe for consumption.

"However, due to limitations, this mechanism cannot yet run optimally," he said.

In addition to technical supervision, Garut Agriculture and Livestock Service also seeks to increase public awareness in choosing healthy and hygienic poultry products, in addition to laboratory testing so that poultry products are selected from healthy poultry products.

"We continue to provide information about the importance of buying poultry products that are safe to consume and how to choose hygienic poultry meat," he said.

With these various efforts, Diskannak hopes that the quality of poultry meat in Garut Regency can continue to be maintained, while increasing public awareness of the importance of health and food safety.
