PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Four regencies and cities in West Java together with the West Java Provincial Government have agreed to work together to resolve the flooding problems that often occur in their areas. The four regions are Bekasi City, Bekasi Regency, Depok City, and Bogor Regency, which are now joining the West Java Provincial Government in disaster mitigation efforts.
As a form of seriousness, the five parties have agreed to raise funds amounting to IDR 500 billion which will be used to overcome the flood problem in the area.
West Java Governor, Dedi Mulyadi, who is familiarly called KDM, said that the funds collected will be used for various strategic steps, including the normalization of three main rivers that cross the four regions, namely the Cikeas River, Bekasi River, and Cileungsi River.
"We will carry out normalization by widening and dredging sedimentation in the three rivers. In addition, we will also expand the Koja Dam in Bekasi City to increase the capacity of overflow water from these three rivers," said Dedi Mulyadi in a meeting with the four regional heads, Friday (7/3/2025).
"With these steps, we hope to reduce the risk of flooding, coupled with the application of weather modification technology," he said.
In addition, the funds collected will also be allocated for repairs and improvements to supporting infrastructure, such as drainage systems and the restoration of houses of residents affected by flooding.
"The main thing is that we are serious about handling this, not just talking," said Dedi firmly.
Previously, hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides hit the areas of Bekasi City and Regency, Bogor City and Regency, and Depok City due to high rainfall that reached extreme levels. With this collective agreement, it is hoped that disaster mitigation and handling efforts can run more effectively and provide maximum protection for affected communities.
