PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) invites the public to rediscover traditional culture through the 2026 Tamansari Arts & Culture Festival.
The festival with the theme "Neuleuman Walungan" was held in the Tamansari area on August 15, 2026 with various arts, culture, and environmental activities.
Secretary of the Bandung City Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar), Nuzrul Irwan Irawan, said the festival is an implementation of Regional Regulation Number 7 of 2023 concerning Cultural Advancement.
The festival refers to 10 cultural advancement objects (OPK) which are an important part of preserving the culture of Bandung City.
Head of Cultural Studies, Indra Andika Arifiana, said reintroducing traditional culture is important to prevent its existence from being increasingly forgotten.
"We must preserve the OPK, a cultural heritage that is starting to disappear. The government can reintroduce the traditional toys we just witnessed," said Indra.
Kaulinan Barudak is one of the festival activities that introduces traditional Sundanese games to the public, especially the younger generation.
In addition to traditional games, the festival features kukuyaan, river cleaning, river carnival, Buruan SAE cooking competition, and Sundanese art performances.
Cecep Agus Setiawan and Ayka Salsabila Fandani, the 2026 West Java Cultural Heritage Entrepreneurs, assessed that the festival opened up space for direct cultural preservation.
"This is one of the cultural preservation efforts to ensure its sustainability, starting from traditional foods, traditional Barudak rituals that may have been somewhat lost or forgotten, now we can see them again and preserve them again," said Cecep.
The activity also involves micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) so that the festival provides a promotional space for community products.
The series of kukuyaan and river cleaning activities connect cultural preservation with community concern for the surrounding environment.
A variety of activities allow residents to learn about culture through direct experience, from games, food, performing arts to community activities.
The festival is expected to make forgotten cultures known again to the public and passed on to the next generation.
