PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. BANDUNG - An aftershock earthquake hit Sumedang Regency again, on Monday (1/2/2024) evening with a magnitude of 4.4.

Responding to this, Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin immediately coordinated with various stakeholders.

The main focus of the West Java Provincial Government is on patients at the Sumedang Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

"Yesterday there was another earthquake in Sumedang and there was some more damage to the hospital. Our focus is mainly on the hospital. Yesterday afternoon there was an assessment from the PUPR Ministry that we were able to return to the hospital room," said Bey while inspecting the Nanjung Tunnel in Bandung Regency, Tuesday (2/ 1/2024).

However, there are several patients at the Sumedang Regional Hospital who are still traumatized, especially since there were aftershocks.

Bey also understands the situation and condition of the patient and has coordinated with the Ministry of Health to provide two tents as hospital rooms and one operating room tent.

"Because there was another earthquake, we also understand that they are traumatized and worried about another earthquake. Although technically the hospital is in good condition, 48 patients returned to tents and today the Ministry of Health will send two tents for hospitalization and one tent for the operating room. ," he added.

"So it is indeed a health standard (tent) and it is also clear that it is not a refugee tent used for patients, but a special hospital tent," added Bey.

Based on temporary data, Bey revealed that the total number of evacuees was 548. Meanwhile, 303 houses were slightly damaged, 92 houses were moderately damaged, and 69 houses were heavily damaged. There were also 14 damaged educational facilities, 7 places of worship and 2 public facilities.

"This is temporary data and is an emergency response, meaning the government will improve it," he explained.

Regarding the viral video of the Cisumdawu Toll Road Twin Tunnel which cracked due to the earthquake, Bey has coordinated with the PUPR Ministry and ensured safety for motorists who will use the Cisumdawu Toll Road through the twin tunnels.

"It can be confirmed, the PUPR Ministry guarantees that it is safe and can be passed," he said.
