PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - West Java Governor, Dedi Mulyadi, directly handed over compensation for operational costs to non-motorized transportation owners during the homecoming and return flow of Eid al-Fitr 1446 H/2025. This assistance was provided as an effort to reduce congestion and smooth the homecoming flow in the West Java region.
The recipients of this compensation include pedicab drivers, horse-drawn carriages, city transportation, and motorcycle taxi drivers in areas that are the main homecoming routes, such as Garut, Tasikmalaya, Cirebon, and Subang Regencies.
"The West Java Provincial Government is providing wage stimulus to pedicab drivers, public transportation drivers, horse-drawn carriages, and motorcycle taxi drivers in areas prone to traffic jams. With this assistance, they can continue to work from home during Eid," said Kang Dedi Mulyadi after symbolically handing over compensation to horse-drawn carriage drivers at the Garut Police, Thursday (20/3/2025).
Each recipient receives compensation of Rp3 million distributed in two stages, namely Rp1.5 million before Eid and Rp1.5 million after. This scheme is implemented to ensure that recipients truly follow the policy so as not to continue operating on the road during the homecoming flow.
"We divided it into two stages so that they are not tempted to continue hanging around on the streets," he said.
Dedi emphasized that this compensation does not burden the regional budget because it comes from the reallocation of the West Java Provincial Government employee travel budget. He said that the funds were diverted for the benefit of the wider community.
"This fund comes from deductions from official travel expenses for West Java Provincial Government employees. Usually it is used for official trips, but this time it was given to the community, such as Mang Oding and friends," he said.
Furthermore, Dedi emphasized that this policy is more profitable than letting the traffic jam happen. According to him, with a budget of Rp 6 billion for compensation, the homecoming flow can be smoother compared to the huge losses due to traffic jams that can reach seven hours.
"Compare Rp 6 billion for compensation budget but traffic jams are reduced, or not budgeting but traffic jams can last 7 hours, traffic jams are more wasteful, right?" he concluded.
