PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan is pushing for the Bandung Grand Mosque to become a center of goodness and strength for the community.

Farhan conveyed this while attending the Tabligh Akbar and Tasyakur Bini'mah welcoming the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the Grand Mosque of Bandung.

The event took place at the Grand Mosque of Bandung on August 15, 2026, attended by the community and congregation.

According to Farhan, the Great Mosque of Bandung is a legacy of the founders of the City of Bandung as well as an asset for the community that plays a role in religious life.

The mosque, which has been standing for almost two centuries, now has 100 percent waqf status and is the responsibility of the congregation.

"This mosque is not owned by the government, but 100 percent by the community. Its continued existence must no longer depend on the government. This mosque must be supported by Muslims throughout Bandung," said Farhan.

The government continues to provide support in the form of incentives and collaboration to help ensure the continuity of various mosque activities.

However, Farhan emphasized that the main role in making the Grand Mosque of Bandung prosperous must come from the community.

According to him, the prosperity of a mosque is not always related to financial support, but also the presence and activities of the community.

Religious and social activities that provide direct benefits to residents are also an important part of making the mosque prosperous.

The Bandung City Government, together with the National Alms Agency (Baznas), is currently exploring the possibility of collecting public funds through sharia capital market instruments.

The idea was inspired by the management of financing for the Istiqlal Mosque through sharia financial investment products that could support the mosque's endowment.

"We, along with Baznas, visited the Indonesia Stock Exchange yesterday to explore the possibility of implementing an initiative similar to that undertaken by the Istiqlal Mosque, namely seeking public funds through the Stock Exchange so that Islamic financial investment products can be distributed to mosques that are 100 percent waqf," said Farhan.

Farhan also saw an increase in the number of congregants in religious activities regularly held at the Grand Mosque of Bandung.

This increase shows that the religious life of the people of Bandung City is increasingly active and continues to develop.

"This means that it is increasingly clear that Bandung is a city with a very strong Islamic religious activity and must continue to be developed," he explained.

Farhan hopes that the Bandung Grand Mosque will become a gathering place for the community to worship and spread goodness.

The mosque is expected to provide social benefits to residents amidst trade, government, economic and community activities in the city of Bandung.
