PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) will complete the lowering of overhead cables on 42 roads by August 2026 to organize the city's infrastructure.

Head of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Infrastructure Division of the Bandung City Communication and Informatics Agency (Diskominfo), Indra Arief Budyana, said the program would continue in stages.

The Bandung City Government is targeting the complete lowering of overhead cables on 85 roads by 2026 to create a more organized city infrastructure.

"Forty-two road sections have now been completed. This week, we'll continue with Jalan Karapitan. The second phase, which targets completion of 45 road sections, is targeted for this week," Indra said at Bandung City Hall on August 24, 2026.

The cable lowering program began on June 2, 2026, from Jalan Merdeka and continued to a number of roads in the center of community activities.

The sections that have been handled include Jalan Merdeka, Wastukancana, Aceh, Perintis Kemerdekaan, Tamblong, Lembong, and Jalan Cilaki.

The arrangement was carried out through an assignment to PT Bandung Infra Investama (BII) to prepare the ICT infrastructure channel before the cable was moved.

Telecommunications operators have a maximum of three months after the control infrastructure is completed to remove cables from the air.

"After the infrastructure is complete, it has to be down within three months. So, operators have three months to lower the cables. Perhaps the start wasn't perfect, and many were rushing," he said.

Delays in cable transfer are still being found because not all customer connections are ready to be transferred simultaneously.

To prevent service disruptions, the Communications and Information Technology Office (Diskominfo) and BII have issued notices to operators since November 2025.

"We've already sent out the notification at least two weeks before the implementation. In fact, we've already announced the road sections that will be reduced since the previous year, in November 2025," he explained.

Starting in September 2026, the development will target longer and denser sections such as Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Ahmad Yani, and Jalan Sudirman.

"September might see many long sections, like Gatot Subroto, Ahmad Yani, and Sudirman. Besides being long, over three kilometers, they're also very crowded," he said.

The Communications and Information Service will coordinate with the Transportation Agency (Dishub), the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), and regional elements to ensure the smooth flow of public activities.

After Jalan Karapitan, the cable laying continued to Jalan Cihampelas and a number of sections with high internet customer density.

"Karapitan is quite long. Then next week, Cihampelas. In the future, there are Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Gatot Subroto. Those are the most vulnerable areas because they have a lot of internet subscribers on both sides," he said.

Indra urged business owners and internet customers to contact their internet service provider (ISP) before work begins.

This step helps customers move connections early so that the risk of internet access being cut off during work can be reduced.

"The public is urged to immediately contact their operator or ISP to prepare. If there are any controls, they should be connected first. Don't wait for the controls to connect," he said.

Business owners who require uninterrupted internet access are also advised to prepare a backup connection to anticipate temporary service disruptions.

"Don't let businesses experience internet outages, especially those without internet access. Don't let the internet go down," he urged.
