PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The 2024 Chinese New Year celebration on February 10 is just a few days away. For Confucians, Chinese New Year is a day of victory.

According to the Trustee of the Tanda Bakti Temple, Tan Tjong Boe, said that Chinese New Year is a very traditional event from China, and has spread throughout the world. An extraordinary day, or what could be called a victory day.

Chinese New Year is the same as other religious holidays, gathering with family, eating special foods and distributing red packets.

"This Chinese New Year is a big day, you can gather relatives for a friendly gathering. Chinese New Year is to share good fortune and love. We get results, we share some of our good fortune, usually red packets. No matter how small we give, its meaning is important," said Tan.

During Chinese New Year celebrations, many food menus are served to be eaten with the family, such as noodles, fish, dodol and vegetables.

"The Chinese New Year menu is oriental, there will definitely be noodles, fish, chicken, vegetables or capcay. So every food has a meaning, so we serve this as a form of thanksgiving," he said.

However, this year, Tan continued, it was close to the Democratic Party so there were restrictions on activities to maintain tolerance between people.

"Welcoming the Chinese New Year, I am more inclined to go to the Village of Tolerance. This year, we are facing a democratic party, I prioritize mutual respect for tolerance to minimize friction. The point is that we still refer to democracy," he said.
