PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Gempolsari Subdistrict, which is located on the border of Bandung City and Cimahi City, continues to innovate to create a comfortable and beautiful environment.
Despite facing various challenges, ranging from waste management, flooding, to the use of public spaces, Gempolsari residents have proven that mutual cooperation and creativity can be a solution.
Located between Melong Subdistrict, Cimahi City, and Margaasih Village, Gempolsari must coordinate with various parties in maintaining environmental cleanliness. One of the main challenges is the garbage that accumulates in the tributaries.
To overcome this, the sub-district installed iron nets as waste filters, so that collection and management became easier.
"We ensure that the waste does not end up in Bandung City. We manage it through coordination with the Cimahi City Environmental Agency," said Gempolsari Village Head Tri Setya Handayani, Sunday (9/2/2025)
It's not just trash that is a concern. Flooding, especially in RW 06, is still a challenge. When it rains heavily, water often overflows, causing puddles in several places.
The Village continues to seek solutions so that the impact can be minimized. One of them is by inviting a number of stakeholders in the Bandung Regency and Cimahi City areas to discuss.
Gempolsari Village is also known as a village that is active in environmental programs. In 2024, this area won 3rd place in the Buruan Sae program. Now, they are preparing to operate a waste processing machine (Motah), which can process up to one ton of waste per hour.
"We really appreciate the Bandung City Government for this program. Hopefully, with the Motah machine, waste management in our area can be more effective," he said.
The machine is scheduled to start operating on February 12 and is expected to be inaugurated on the same day.
In addition to focusing on cleanliness and environmental management, Gempolsari Subdistrict also encourages residents' initiatives in utilizing public spaces.
One of the movements that has received widespread attention is brand.gg, a narrow alley or brandgang revitalization activity initiated by Andi Abdulqodir and Arum Kartikaningbudi in RW 02.
In the past, narrow alleys between houses only served as air circulation routes and emergency access. Now, these alleys have been transformed into clean, healthy, and colorful public spaces.
"We make this brand a space for young people to develop creative insights by going directly to the community. We want the creativity of young people not only to end on canvas or gadget screens, but also to be applied in the surrounding environment," said Head of RW 02 Gempolsari Andi.
A total of 22 alleys in RW 02 have been revitalized, with four main alleys having specific functions. There is Kebun Rukun Asih which is used by residents as a shared garden, Community Alley which is a place to gather and hold arts and cultural activities, Peace Alley as the initial project for alley revitalization, and Water Journey Alley which focuses on environmental education and sanitation.
"We do all of this openly. Every time there is an activity, residents who see it directly become curious and eventually participate," he said.
To date, brand.gg has entered its fifth volume with a focus on the theme of water and sanitation. The launch of this project was carried out together with the Bandung City Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSDABM).
