PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Ciroyom flyover in Bandung City has been opened, Wednesday (10/23/2024). The flyover that crosses the Ciroyom railway intersection has been declared fit for use, although other supporting facilities have not been installed, such as lights and complete signs.
"Today we will start operating it, because it has met the structural requirements for use. We just need to complete it with signs and add street lighting or PJU," said Acting Mayor of Bandung A. Koswara at the location.
The Ciroyom flyover was built to overcome traffic congestion in the area, due to people's activities at the Ciroyom market and the railway crossing.
"Moreover, now the frequency of train crossings is increasing every day. In addition to regular short and long distance trains, there are also additional feeder trains that serve KCIC Woosh passengers," he said.
In connection with the operation of the Ciroyom flyover, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 2 Bandung together with the Bandung Class 1 Railway Engineering Center (BTP), closed the level crossing (JPL) number 157 located between Ciroyom - Andir Stations, Bandung City.
Executive Vice President of KAI Daop 2 Bandung Takdir Santoso said that the closure of the JPL aims to improve safety at railway level crossings, referring to Article 91 paragraph 1 of Law Number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways which states that intersections between railway lines and roads are not made at the same level.
"Daop 2 Bandung supports the closure, which is the authority of the government, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Ministry of PUPR," he said.
Takdir also explained, throughout January - October 2024 a total of 27 crossing gates have been closed. Of that number, including 6 points in Garut Regency, 1 point in Cianjur Regency, 2 points in Ciamis Regency, 3 points in Bandung Regency, 6 points in Sukabumi Regency, 2 points in Tasikmalaya Regency, 2 points in Tasikmalaya City, 3 points in Bandung City and 2 other points in Purwakarta Regency.
In closing this crossing, PT KAI Daop 2 Bandung collaborated with several related parties, starting from the Directorate General of Railways, Ministry of Transportation, Regional Government, and regional agencies as well as several other parties.
Takdir Santoso also said that the closure of the illegal crossing was an effort to prevent accidents. Takdir continued, throughout January - October 2024, there were 17 accidents recorded at level crossings with 8 fatalities and 6 injuries.
