PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. GARUT - Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan officially released the Garut Regency contingent which will take part in the West Java Regional Government Sports Week (PORPEMDA) - XV 2023. The release event was held at a joint rally at the Regional Secretariat (Setda) Field, Garut Regency, Monday (20/ 11/2023).

In his speech, Rudy wished the Garut athletes a happy competition, while giving the best prayers for the success of the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) who will compete in this inter-regional sports event throughout West Java.

Head of the Garut Regency Youth and Sports Service (Dispora), Ade Hendarsyah, explained that the Garut contingent will compete in 11 sports, including 10 achievement sports, namely volleyball, basketball, table tennis, field tennis, athletic walking, badminton. , futsal, chess, golf and billiards, a traditional sport, namely stilts. The number of athletes reached 79 people, supported by 11 coaches, 12 officials and 11 managers, bringing the total contingent strength to 113 people.

Ade stated, although there is no age limit, PORPEMDA participants must be ASN, including Civil Servants (PNS) or Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK).

Ade said that the implementation of PORPEMDA was an important momentum after being stopped for several years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last time this event was held was in 2018. This event, which takes place every four years, was held in Kuningan Regency.

"Once every 4 years, but because four years ago there was no implementation of Porpemda because of COVID-19, so this has only happened again in Kuningan," he said.

The achievements achieved by the Garut contingent at the previous PORPEMDA were neatness and accuracy walking, table tennis and futsal. Ade hopes for positive achievements, especially in futsal, which is filled with many athletes from the Education Department.

"Hopefully that's the case with futsal, because futsal is mostly the education department for athletes and sports teachers," he said.

Apart from that, Ade said, several athletes who will compete come from several Regional Apparatus (PD), such as table tennis from the Transportation Service, and futsal from the Education Department.

"For example, there is futsal at the Education Department. Table tennis is at the Transportation Agency, there is also teacher education, basketball is also spread, some are from the Regional Secretariat, some are from the department," he said.

The Garut contingent is scheduled to compete on November 25 to November 29 2023. Ade asked for blessings from the community so that the athletes can maintain their health and achieve optimal performance. (Diskominfo Garut/UPI)
