PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is preparing traffic engineering management in the Gedung Sate and Gasibu Field areas to ensure smooth traffic flow following the arrangement of public spaces in the area.

Head of the Bandung City Transportation Agency, Rasdian Setiadi, explained that the traffic engineering scheme was prepared based on a technical study by the West Java Provincial Government together with the police and related regional agencies.

"This planning is based on a study by a consultant who compiled the Traffic Impact Analysis, the results of which were implemented according to the results of the mitigation scenario ranking by a team consisting of the West Java Transportation Agency, the Regional Police Traffic Directorate, the West Java Spatial Planning and Highways Agency, the Bandung City Police Traffic Unit, the Bandung City Transportation Agency, and the Bandung City Water Resources and Highways Agency," said Rasdian (4/28/2026).

Rasdian said the Bandung City Government plays a role in overseeing the implementation of traffic engineering in the field so that the policy does not disrupt community activities.

"We in Bandung City play a role in overseeing implementation on the ground to ensure it runs effectively and does not have a detrimental impact on the community," said Rasdian.

The development of the Gedung Sate and Gasibu areas is part of the West Java Provincial Government's program to provide more comfortable and friendly public spaces for residents.

This arrangement has an impact on the closure of the Jalan Diponegoro section in the core segment between Gedung Sate and Gasibu Field.

The Bandung City Transportation Agency is preparing to regulate the distribution of vehicle flow through a number of road corridors around the area as alternative routes.

The flow of vehicles from the north will be directed via Jalan Surapati and Jalan Sentot Alibasyah towards the Citarum, Cilaki, and Cimanuk road networks.

Vehicles from the east coming via Jalan Surapati or Jalan Ir. H. Juanda are diverted via Jalan Sulanjana and part of Jalan Diponegoro.

Meanwhile, vehicles from the west and south are directed via Jalan Majapahit, Jalan Cimandiri, and Jalan Cimanuk before returning to the main city route.

The Bandung City Transportation Agency also increased road capacity by opening additional lanes on Jalan Sentot Alibasyah and Jalan Surapati towards Dago and converting Jalan Majapahit into a two-way road.

"The approach isn't just about diverting traffic, but rather distributing the traffic load so it's not concentrated in one spot," Rasdian said.

Rasdian explained that vehicles from west to east no longer pass straight on Jalan Diponegoro and are diverted via Jalan Cilamaya on the back side of Gedung Sate.

"This is a key point in the engineering process. By diverting to Cilamaya, we avoid traffic conflicts in the core area, which will be focused on as a public space," said Rasdian.

The Bandung City Transportation Agency has also prepared supporting measures in the form of regulating on-road parking, reducing turn-around points, arranging street vendors, and regulating access in and out of office and shopping areas.

This step is expected to maintain smooth traffic flow while supporting the use of public spaces that are safer and more comfortable for the public.
