PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Regional Government (Pemda) of Bandung City is planting shallots and cayenne peppers simultaneously in 30 sub-districts throughout Bandung City. This activity is an effort to control inflation.

Bandung City Regional Secretary Hikmat Ginanjar and Bandung City Regional Government officials carry out planting at Buruan Sae Pemuda Mandiri, Sukawarna Village, Sukajadi District, Tuesday (30/4/2024)

"In Bandung City, agricultural land is limited, so food needs depend on other regions. Around 90 percent of food is supplied from outside. To anticipate this, the government is making efforts to provide food using sufficient land with the Buruan Sae program," explained Hikmat.

According to Hikmat, the presence of Buruan Sae provides an answer for the community to manage limited land. The ultimate goal is to fulfill food needs.

He revealed that regularly planting food necessities such as cayenne peppers, onions and others can produce carbon emissions which are good for the environment.

"The benefits are extraordinary, not only for consumption, but there is carbon produced. The green economic environment in the city of Bandung provides continuity of life, with a life expectancy of 74.4 years," he explained.

In the same place, the Head of the Bandung City Food Security and Agriculture Service, Gin Gin Ginanjar, said that Bandung City is a big city but is capable of developing the Buruan Sae yard.

"Today, 375 Buruan Sae in Bandung City are planting chilies and onions simultaneously throughout Bandung City. This time we are planting in the Buruan Sae Pemuda Mandiri area in the Sukajadi area.

"We are trying to add 100 Buruan Sae groups this year, so there are a total of around 500 groups. We continue to encourage the community to use the land to manage it well for food needs," he said.

Gin Gin added that simultaneous planting of cayenne peppers, shallots and tomatoes is a strategic food commodity.

The plan is to harvest simultaneously in the next two months, in July.

"This strategic food can be easily marketed and has a very strong impact on the formation of inflation figures," he said.

According to him, these food commodities are a group of foodstuffs that have quite large opportunities.

"However, this also often experiences price fluctuations, so it is hoped that planting and harvesting will be able to fulfill people's food needs," he said.

Gin Gin said that the assistance provided for planting this time included cayenne pepper seeds, 5 kg of red onion seeds, polybags, 1 seed house package, 1 sachet of tomato seeds, soil, 20 sacks of manure, 15 kg of NPK and pesticide 1 package.

TP PKK Bandung City Linda Nurani Hapsah who was also present appreciated the planting of these foodstuffs.

"This is our step to maximize Buruan Sae, it is hoped that the need for food will be available. When the market is scarce, having Buruan Sae in the environment will result in this harvest," he said.

According to him, the food currently being planted is food that has an influence on inflation rates.

"We plant onions and cloves. Because this ingredient is one of the things that helps to reduce the rate of inflation. Because this commodity is a necessity in the kitchen as a basic need," he explained.
