PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The City of Bandung and the City of Nanning, China, officially established friendly relations through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) during the visit of the Nanning City Government delegation to Bandung (24/3/2025).
This collaboration covers various strategic areas, such as artificial intelligence (AI), agriculture, medicine, and the green economy.
The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, welcomed this initiative and emphasized that this collaboration would be an important step in strengthening international relations in the city of Bandung.
He also said that this collaboration is a strategic step for the City of Bandung in accelerating innovation in various sectors.
"This is the 15th sister city collaboration for Bandung City which we hope can open up opportunities in the fields of artificial intelligence technology development, agriculture, health, and the concept of a green economy. In this green economy sector, we will also see how waste processing technology can be utilized more efficiently," he said.
In addition to AI, Bandung City and Nanning City are also exploring cooperation in the agriculture and health sectors. Modern technology applied in Nanning is expected to increase agricultural efficiency in Bandung and accelerate access to technology-based health services.
Muhammad Farhan added that this collaboration opens up opportunities to adopt more efficient agricultural innovations.
"We will see how agricultural technology developed there can be applied in Bandung City. Likewise with health services that can be more advanced with technology," he explained.
Cooperation in the field of green economy is one of the main concerns. Muhammad Farhan said there is great potential in utilizing waste processing technology that has been implemented in Nanning City.
"When it comes to waste processing technology, there are two interesting things. First, how they can process waste into renewable energy, and second, a waste processing system without residue. But we still have to study this further," said Muhammad Farhan.
As a follow-up to this collaboration, the Bandung City delegation is scheduled to make a return visit to Nanning City in September 2025.
"We still have to see the implementation. Every time there is an invitation to visit abroad, of course it must be considered carefully," he added.
In this meeting, the Nanning City delegation highlighted the importance of cooperation in the field of AI. Nanning City has become a center for AI development in China and is ready to share experiences with Bandung City.
The Nanning City Government has also proposed establishing an artificial intelligence cooperation center between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, in which Bandung City is expected to be part of the initiative.
"We see that the era of imitation intelligence has arrived, and China is at the forefront of its development. We would like to share our experiences with Bandung City and establish collaborations in various sectors, including health and digital economy," said Nong Shengwen, representative of the Nanning City delegation.
This collaboration also covers the medical field.
In the medical sector, AI is expected to improve diagnostic accuracy and accelerate access to health services for the people of Bandung City.
In addition, Bandung City and Nanning City are also committed to developing a green economy.
Nanning City delegation shared experiences in waste treatment, green energy management, and the development of larger green open spaces.
As a follow-up to this cooperation, the Mayor of Bandung was invited to attend the China-ASEAN Summit in Nanning City next September.
This meeting is expected to accelerate the realization of the agreed cooperation project. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fauziah)
