[15.43, 22/10/2026] Kang Revo, West Java Communications and Information Service: Bandung City Government Cleans Up Vandalism After Demonstrations in Several City Areas
Bandung City – The Bandung City Government cleaned up vandalism at several locations following demonstrations on Wednesday (October 21, 2026). The cleanup included Simpang Lima, Jalan Braga, the Bandung City Hall, and the Cikapayang-Dago area, restoring the city's cleanliness and beauty.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan directly reviewed the cleaning process with regional officials and related regional apparatus.
"Thank God, this morning we immediately took action to clean up the vandalism that occurred during yesterday's demonstration," said Farhan.
He stated that the cleanup process would be carried out intensively for 24 hours. The Bandung City Government involved the Environmental Agency (DLH), the Housing and Settlement Agency, government officials, and regional officials.
Farhan emphasized that vandalism has nothing to do with freedom of expression and opinion. Therefore, affected public facilities and spaces must be immediately restored to ensure they remain clean and comfortable for public use.
"The most important goal, of course, is to restore the cleanliness and beauty of Bandung. Vandalism has nothing to do with freedom of expression and opinion," he said.
Simpang Lima was one of the locations with quite visible vandalism damage. Several letters on facilities in the area were damaged, particularly at the bottom, requiring removal for repair.
"The most damage here was due to vandalism. So, all the letters were destroyed because the bottom part was damaged. So, we'll remove everything and try to repair everything so it looks more normal," he explained.
Despite the vandalism, Farhan confirmed that no major damage was found to traffic facilities. Several facilities, including traffic lights, remained in good condition.
"Thank God, nothing happened. We did see some vandalism, and we're cleaning it up," he said.
In addition to Simpang Lima, cleanup efforts are underway along Jalan Asia Afrika to the Bandung City Hall, as well as in the Braga and Cikapayang-Dago areas. The Bandung City Government aims to quickly restore the affected areas so that community activities can resume safely.
Farhan also stated that economic and social activities continued smoothly after the demonstration. He noted that, although there was some friction, the situation generally did not disrupt community activities.
"So far, monitoring of socio-economic activities in Bandung City has been going well. Although the demonstrations have had some friction and sparks, they have not disrupted overall socio-economic activities in Bandung City," he concluded. (Pun)
