PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government supports the construction of the Greater Bandung Bus Rapid Transit as a solution to traffic congestion and to improve public transportation services, marked by the groundbreaking of the Indonesia Mass Transit Project (Mastran) at the Leuwipanjang Terminal (22/7/2026).

The central government and regional governments also signed a Public Service Obligation agreement to ensure that mass transportation services remain affordable for the public.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that mass transportation integration opens up investment opportunities and supports urban planning.

Farhan explained that the Bandung City Government is preparing to build a parking building along the Bus Rapid Transit corridor because parking on the roadside and by street vendors is no longer permitted.

"There should be no parking or street vendors along the BRT route. Therefore, we are inviting investors to build parking buildings as part of the area's development," said Farhan.

He stated that the Bandung City Government has supported the Public Service Obligation scheme since 2024 because Bandung City is the primary beneficiary of the service.

Farhan hopes that the Bus Rapid Transit fare will be around IDR 7,000 so that more people will switch to using public transportation.

"I'm working to keep the fare around Rp. 7,000 so that people will be more interested in using public transportation," he said.

According to Farhan, city transportation will continue to operate by transforming into an electric vehicle-based feeder service connected to the main Bus Rapid Transit corridor.

"The old public transportation will not be removed but will become a feeder service connected to the main BRT corridor," he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said that Bus Rapid Transit will be the backbone of mass transportation integrated with trains and feeder services.

"BRT will be the backbone of mass transportation services integrated with trains, feeder buses, and other modes of transportation, making travel easier and more efficient for people from their starting point to their final destination," said Dudy.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said the construction of the Bus Rapid Transit marks a new era of public transportation in Greater Bandung.

Dedi added that conventional city transportation will be directed to become an electric vehicle-based feeder service with support from a financing scheme for drivers.

"Modern transportation isn't just about the vehicles, but also about the culture of using public transportation and the quality of city services that support it, from sidewalks and street lighting to security," Dedi said.
