PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government appreciates the initiative of the Indonesian Islamic Propagation Institute (LDII) which held a Ramadan Cheap Market at the Sabilul Muttaqin Mosque, Margaasri, Buahbatu District (15/3/2025).
LDII's Ramadan Cheap Market provides a subsidy of IDR 100,000 per package from the price of IDR 150,000, residents only need to pay IDR 50,000 to 1,000 beneficiaries, to help obtain people's basic needs at more affordable prices.
The basic food packages sold at this cheap market contain 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of sugar, 1 kg of flour, 500 grams of crackers, and 1 liter of cooking oil.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan was present to inaugurate the event. He said that the phenomenon of rising prices of basic necessities during Ramadan is part of demand-driven inflation when high demand causes prices to circulate.
Therefore, LDII's steps in providing cheap basic food packages are very helpful to the community.
"Alhamdulillah, today we inaugurate a cheap market with a thousand basic food packages. The original price is Rp150,000, but it is sold for only Rp50,000 thanks to subsidies and assistance from various parties. An extraordinary initiative that helps the purchasing power of Bandung residents remain stable," said Farhan.
Farhan said that the purchasing power of Bandung residents still needs to be improved. With a per capita income of around 8,000 USD per year, the average consumption of residents is only Rp18 million per year.
For this reason, the Bandung City Government continues to encourage subsidy programs for low-income communities (MBR) and opens up investment opportunities to create new jobs.
Chairman of DPD LDII Bandung City, Edi Sunandar explained, Pasar Murah Ramadan is an annual program that is routinely carried out. This year, the activity was held in two locations, namely Buahbatu and Sukajadi Districts, and funded by donors.
"In addition to the cheap market, we also distributed 5,000 takjil packages in various sub-districts in Bandung, except Sumur Bandung because there is no LDII office there. We want to help the community meet their basic needs amidst the high price of food during Ramadan," he explained.
Fortunately, this program not only helps the community, but also contributes to suppressing inflation at the local level.
"Even though we fast during Ramadan, consumption actually increases. With this cheap market, we hope to ease the burden on the community a little. We also believe that the best people are those who are most beneficial to others, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad SAW," he said. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fauziah)
