PORTALJABAR, DEPOK CITY - The West Java Provincial Government launched the Muslim-Friendly Tourism program (Smiling West Java-Muslim Friendly Tourism) at the At-Thohir Mosque, Depok City, to develop religious tourism based on the SPECIAL zone 9/7/2026.

At-Thohir Mosque is projected to become a religious tourism attraction with a SPECIAL zone concept that includes Culinary, Halal, Safe, and Healthy.

Head of the West Java Province Tourism and Culture Office, Iendra Sofyan, said the development aims to increase the potential for Muslim-friendly tourism.

"We are currently assisting the At-Thohir Mosque, which is being promoted as the first religious-based tourist attraction to become a SPECIAL zone. In its implementation, we are collaborating with the Regional Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance and the Halal Product Guarantee Agency," said Iendra.

The program received support from the Depok City Government as an effort to strengthen the quality of tourist destinations and services for the community.

Deputy Mayor of Depok Chandra Rahmansyah said that Depok City is ready to support the development of religious-based tourism at the At-Thohir Mosque.

"It's an honor for us that Depok City has been entrusted to host the launch of the West Java Provincial Government's strategic program. This event demonstrates that the tourism sector is not only focused on increasing tourist arrivals, but also on destination quality, data-driven service, and strengthening collaboration between stakeholders," said Chandra.

Chandra said the At-Thohir Mosque has religious value as well as the potential to become a comfortable public space for the community and tourists.

"The At-Thohir Mosque has become a symbol of religious values and can provide a comfortable space for the community while also attracting local and international tourists. The Depok City Government certainly supports various Muslim-friendly tourism development programs initiated by the West Java Provincial Government. We believe that synergy between the central government, provincial government, district/city government, business actors, academics, communities, and the public can be key to building a quality tourism ecosystem. Hopefully, this strategic step will provide real benefits for the community," he added.

The launch was also accompanied by the publication of tourism development achievements through the West Java National Tourism Development Index.
