PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan visited the Ciroyom Slaughterhouse (RPH) managed by the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) under the Bandung City Food Security and Agriculture Service (DKPP) (27/3/2025).
Farhan wants to ensure the readiness of animal slaughtering to meet the needs of the community during the Eid period.
"In the past week, we have been intensively ensuring that public service points run smoothly for the sake of the smooth running of the Lebaran celebration. Today, we are directly reviewing the Ciroyom RPH to ensure that the facilities here are ready to slaughter cattle, especially because of the very high demand at this time," said Farhan.
According to Farhan, the availability and distribution of meat are important factors in maintaining price stability and preventing inflation.
"The slaughtering ensures that the animals in the RPH are part of the cattle supply chain, so that the meat that reaches the community is ready to be purchased. The stability of inflation is very dependent on the smooth distribution and availability of the goods themselves. Therefore, we want everything to run smoothly," he explained.
During this visit, Farhan was also accompanied by a member of the DPD RI of West Java, Agita Nurfianti. He said that the presence of the DPD RI envoy in this visit showed the importance of collaboration between the central government, regions, and in the community to ensure food availability during Lebaran.
"We are grateful that today we can be accompanied by members of the DPD RI from West Java, including Mrs. Anggita. This is a very good form of collaboration between the regional and central governments.
"Hopefully, with synergy like this, we can provide the best solution for the people of Bandung," said Farhan.
He hopes that all preparations for Eid, including the availability of meat and food stability, can run smoothly.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Bandung City DKPP, Gin Gin Ginanjar, revealed that the city of Bandung is still very dependent on food supplies from outside the region.
"Almost 96.42 percent of Bandung City still depends on food from outside. We are often lulled and do not realize that we actually lack our own food resources. From research, even 30-40 percent of food in Bandung is taken back out of the city, so it seems as if the supply is sufficient, when in fact we are still very dependent," explained Gin Gin.
To overcome this dependency, DKPP seeks to maximize existing potential through the concept of integrated urban farming.
This program has been running for the past five years and aims to utilize limited land in urban areas so that it can remain productive.
"We are trying to utilize the land available in small settlements with an integrated urban farming concept.
"This concept combines eight elements, including vegetable cultivation, medicinal plants, fruits, fisheries, chicken farming, and organic waste management to be made into compost or maggots," explained Gin Gin.
To date, the Buruan SAE urban farming program in Bandung City has grown rapidly, with almost 500 urban farming points spread across various regions. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fauziah)
