PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government moved quickly to deal with the landslide that occurred at the Nagrog Public Cemetery (TPU), Ujungberung District, due to heavy rain (8/3/2025).
The landslide with a diameter of around 30 meters and a depth of 10 meters affected eight graves in Block E. The eight graves have been relocated to a safer place.
The Head of the Bandung City Public Works, Construction Development, and Spatial Planning Agency (Disciptabintar), Bambang Suhari, together with the Ujungberung Sub-district Head, Abriwansyah Fitri and the Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSDABM) immediately went to the location to conduct an inspection, Sunday, March 9, 2025.
Bambang said the evacuation process of the graves was carried out according to procedure, with the consent of the heirs and witnessed directly by them. The eight bodies were moved to Block H as many as 2 bodies and to Block N as many as 6 bodies.
"Alhamdulillah, all heirs agreed to move the grave to a safer place. Hopefully today the weather will be good so that the evacuation process runs smoothly," he said.
Bambang also revealed that the landslide was caused by water flowing across the Nagrog TPU and passing through the Gending Mas Housing Complex.
In addition to damaging the cemetery area, the landslide also threatens a prayer room and toilet building at the TPU which are now hanging on the edge of the landslide.
"We have coordinated with DSDABM, and today their officers are conducting a review to immediately handle the impact of this landslide," explained Bambang.
Apart from TPU Nagrog, Bambang said, currently inspections are also being carried out at a number of other TPUs that are potentially affected by landslides.
Of the 13 TPUs inspected, several have received treatment, such as TPU Cikutra and TPU Sirnaraga, which had previously experienced major landslides.
"Alhamdulillah, the retaining walls at Cikutra and Sirnaraga TPU are now stronger after repairs were carried out together with DSDABM and the River Basin Center (BBWS)," said Bambang.
Meanwhile, seven other TPUs crossed by rivers such as Babakan Ciparay, Astanaanyar, Guburu, Malaer, Cibarunai, Cikutra, and Nagrog will continue to be monitored to anticipate potential landslides.
"God willing, we will continue to monitor and handle it so that similar incidents do not happen again, especially in TPU which is at high risk due to water erosion," he said.
One of the heirs of the relocated graves, Tina, a resident of Pasanggrahan Village, appreciated the quick efforts of the City Government, especially Disciptabintar, in relocating the family graves that were threatened by landslides.
"Alhamdulillah, thank you to the Bandung City Government who has worked quickly to move our family's graves. Here we have two graves, the graves of my mother and father," he said.
In the same place, the Head of the DSDABM River Basin Area (DAS) UPT, Asep Suryana explained that the repair process would take more than a month considering the steep and deep ground conditions.
"The handling cannot be just an emergency because it is very steep, about 10 meters. Usually for landslides with a height of 5-6 meters, it can still be handled with sacks or rucuk, but here it is not possible. We must act immediately so that the landslide does not widen," said Asep.
Currently, the DSDABM team has reviewed the location and will immediately take technical action with the tools possible, because access to the Nagrog TPU is quite narrow.
In addition, ahead of Eid al-Fitr, TPU Nagrog is expected to be crowded with pilgrims. Therefore, Ujungberung Sub-district Head, Abriwansyah Fitri appealed to the public to use two-wheeled vehicles to avoid congestion.
"We appeal to residents who want to make a pilgrimage to TPU Nagrog not to use cars, because the access road to this TPU is quite small and can only be passed by motorbikes. This is for the comfort and smoothness of all," he said. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fauziah).
