PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Garut Regency Government received an award at the 12th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2026 for its geothermal energy development.

The award was received by the Regional Secretary of Garut Regency, Nurdin Yana, representing the Regent of Garut at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), 20/8/2026.

The award recognizes the Garut Regency Government's commitment to developing geothermal energy and supporting the transition to sustainable clean energy.

Geothermal utilization is one of Garut's efforts to optimize regional energy potential to meet electricity needs and support development.

The clean geothermal energy capacity is said to be able to support the fulfillment of regional electricity needs of around 126 megawatts (MW).

Meanwhile, the total installed capacity of geothermal power plants in the Garut region, including Kamojang and Darajat, reaches around 270 MW.

The development of this potential involves the Garut Regency Government, the National Energy Council (DEN), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), and developers.

A number of developers involved include PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) and Star Energy in geothermal energy development.

This collaboration is aimed at supporting national energy security while optimizing the Production Bonus Fund for communities surrounding the development area.

The Garut Regency Government believes that this award will encourage the expansion of renewable energy utilization, which provides added value to the community.

Geothermal potential is expected to support regional development while maintaining environmental sustainability through the use of low-emission energy.

This achievement also positions Garut as one of the regions that contributes to supporting the national energy transition agenda.

The Garut Regency Government is committed to ensuring that geothermal development not only supports energy needs but also increases the economic benefits for the community.
