PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - In an effort to improve welfare, especially for mothers, the Bandung City Government will provide a number of assistance to elderly women (lansia) through the "Nyaah ka Indung" program. The assistance provided is in the form of basic needs, such as food, clothing, medicines, access to health services and social assistance.

The recipients of assistance have several criteria, including elderly women who are residents of Bandung City aged at least 60 years, and are not recipients of social assistance from the APBN or APBD.

This program is implemented through the “Foster Mother” scheme, namely ASN, structural and functional officials, and BUMD employees provide support for at least one elderly person.

"Through this program, the Bandung City Government wants to give respect, appreciation, protection, and fulfillment of the basic rights of the elderly, especially women, proportionally and sustainably," said Deputy Mayor of Bandung Erwin at the Sonata Radio Joint Broadcast activity, Friday (25/4/2025).

Erwin said that community support, especially the PKK sub-district and village, is very important in the data collection process, mapping program targets, and assisting with monitoring. With community support, it is hoped that the implementation of the program will run well in their respective areas.

According to him, the "Nyaah ka Indung" program is more than just material assistance. This program aims to build social civility, strengthen family values, and realize the city of Bandung as a truly elderly-friendly city.

"With the involvement of ASN, BUMD, PKK, and the general public, we want to work together to create a more inclusive, fair, and humane environment for the elderly," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bandung City Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Service, Uum Sumiati, said that this program refers to West Java Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2023 concerning Elderly Welfare, which guarantees the rights of the elderly to health, social, legal, educational, and other services.

Meanwhile, at the Bandung City level, the basis is Bandung City Regulation Number 2 of 2021 concerning Elderly-Friendly Cities, and is reinforced by the Bandung Mayor's Instruction which regulates the technical implementation of the Bandung Nyaah Ka Indung program. The regulation provides a strong foundation that all elderly people have the right to proper protection and attention. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/ Rani)
