PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has prepared a waste processing facility with a capacity of 300 tons per day at the Gedebage Organic and Circular Waste Processing Facility (TPSOS).

This facility is aimed at reducing the burden of waste management in Bandung City through the application of more effective waste processing technology.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan inspected the location with the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto and the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara Sigit Puji Santosa 16/8/2026.

The visit discussed land readiness and the facility development plan, which is targeted to begin operations in December 2026.

Farhan ensured that technological development must not eliminate the livelihoods of the people who have been working at the Gedebage Social Rehabilitation Center (TPSOS).

"I will fight to ensure that no one is marginalized. As the Minister said, everyone will be employed. For me, it's not just about being employed, but being employed as an employee," Farhan said.

The Bandung City Government will record workers' income to determine a replacement or compensation scheme if work patterns change.

"We're both open. That way, we can calculate where the replacement will be. After all, this is starting to become a matter of livelihood," he said.

Farhan asked workers, managers, communities, sub-district heads, village heads, and regional elements to convey field conditions openly.

He targets accelerated facility construction so that waste processing technology can immediately provide benefits to Bandung City's waste management system.

"We will speed up construction. It must be operational by December," he stressed.

The Head of the Bandung City Environmental Agency (DLH), Darto, said that Gedebage is the main candidate for implementing processing technology with a capacity of 300 tons per day.

"We've already been appointed directly, the condition of the land and so on were checked directly, and it feels like it's worth continuing," said Darto.

The technology discussed includes the concept of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) which is compressed into a briquette-shaped material.

Darto explained that the application of the technology still requires proof through direct implementation before the development process continues.

The next stages include signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU), a Cooperation Agreement (PKS), and preparing a business process for facility management.

The Bandung City Government has prepared a Public Service Agency (BLU) to handle the business aspects of managing these facilities.

The collaboration with Danantara will be formalized through an MoU and followed by a cooperation contract to support technology development.

This facility is expected to reduce the waste burden while maintaining economic benefits for the community who have been working in waste management.

The Bandung City Government ensures that the transformation of waste management technology continues to involve the community so that the benefits of facility development can be felt sustainably.
