PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Transportation Agency has prepared a traffic management scheme to ensure smooth mobility for residents during the construction of the Bus Rapid Transit route in the city center (31/1/2026).

Head of the Bandung City Transportation Agency, Rasdian Setiadi, said that the physical construction of the Bus Rapid Transit has entered the special lane or on corridor stage.

The project will have a direct impact on traffic flow on a number of main roads in Bandung City.

Rasdian Setiadi explained that the initial plan included 20 routes, but 18 routes will be implemented.

"There are 18 out of 20 Bus Rapid Transit routes," said Rasdian Setiadi.

A total of 21 kilometers of on-corridor lines will be built complete with stops and physical separators.

"Of the 18 kilometers, 21 kilometers are on corridors or special routes," said Rasdian Setiadi.

Work on the dedicated lane is planned to begin in February after the Ministry of Transportation's contract is completed.

Rasdian Setiadi acknowledged that the development has the potential to cause traffic congestion in the city center.

"The construction of corridors and bus stops will definitely have an impact on traffic congestion," said Rasdian Setiadi.

A number of affected roads include Sudirman, Rajawali, Pasir Koja, Otista, Dewi Sartika, Banceuy, Naripan, Ahmad Yani, and Jalan Jakarta.

The Bandung City Transportation Agency has put field officers on standby and is coordinating with the police for traffic engineering.

"We will deploy officers and coordinate with the police," said Rasdian Setiadi.

The city government also held a Traffic Group Discussion Forum to develop short, medium, and long-term schemes.

Traffic management will be strengthened with an Intelligent Traffic System based on artificial intelligence at traffic lights.

The system allows green lights to adjust the length of vehicle queues to reduce congestion.

This measure is intended to ensure that public activities continue while the mass transportation project is underway. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/bhf)
