PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is rehabilitating the public space of Jalan LLRE Martadinata by planting 10 replacement mahogany trees.

The planting was carried out by the Bandung City Housing and Settlement Service (2/9/2026) after the previous tree was cut down without permission.

Head of the City Parks and Decoration Division of the Bandung City DPKP, Nana Kurniawan, said that all the mahogany trees had been planted and were undergoing intensive maintenance.

"Thank God, today we planted 10 trees. They're planted and finished. They're mahogany trees, estimated to be 5 to 6 years old," he said.

The ten mahogany trees were approximately 5–6 years old with an average height of more than five meters when planted.

Officers first carry out root treatment to anticipate pest and fungal attacks before the tree is moved.

"We first treat the roots to prevent pests and fungus. After planting, we also install root reinforcement as part of post-planting maintenance," he said.

Root reinforcement is installed to help the tree adapt to the new environment while supporting growth after planting.

DPKP monitors tree conditions regularly to ensure plants remain healthy and thrive in accordance with environmental conditions.

"We can't guarantee a 100% success rate, as there's always the possibility of failure. But if any die, we'll replace them with new ones," he said.

Monitoring is carried out through the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) and sector officers who supervise trees on various road sections.

Supervision is also directed at preventing damage or actions that could threaten the sustainability of public space trees.

Nana said the public plays an important role in reporting tree damage because a number of incidents occur outside of officers' working hours.

"During business hours, we have monitoring officers. However, incidents like vandalism usually occur outside of business hours. Therefore, we also need public support to provide information," he said.

DPKP coordinates with sub-districts and urban villages to expand supervision of trees planted in public spaces.

"Coordination with the regional government has been carried out. Earlier, we also coordinated with the sub-district heads to assist with supervision in the area," he said.

The public can also provide information on tree conditions because citizen reports are considered to help the government understand conditions directly on the ground.

"Information can come from anywhere, including the public. Sometimes, the public provides very accurate information because they're directly on the scene," he said.

Besides Jalan Riau, the government has noted Dago, Sawunggaling, and Cijerah as other locations receiving attention regarding tree felling.

Rehabilitation at the location will be carried out after the administrative and enforcement processes are completed according to procedures.

"Essentially, we will rehabilitate the trees that have been cut down. They will be replanted later, but the timing will depend on the procedures involved," he explained.
