PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan confirmed that Bandung Zoo will not operate until after Eid al-Fitr 1447 H due to the revocation of the permit by the central government since 3/2/2026 to ensure animal safety and legal certainty.

The Bandung City Government followed up on the Ministry of Forestry's decision by stopping all operational activities in the area.

The Bandung City Government secured regional assets and sealed the land on February 5, 2026 to safeguard ownership and prevent illegal activities.

This step was followed by collaboration with the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) in rescuing animals and handling workers.

Farhan said the decision to close was made to ensure all administrative and legal processes were carried out according to regulations.

"We understand that Bandung Zoo is a popular tourist destination for residents and tourists. However, its permit has been revoked by the central government, so operations cannot be reopened until all administrative and legal processes are completed," said Farhan.

The Bandung City Government has confirmed that it will not temporarily reopen the zoo, even though it is entering the Eid holiday period.

"We will not temporarily reopen the zoo after Eid. Everything must comply with regulations. Animal safety, good management, and legal certainty are our top priorities," he explained.

The government will reopen operations after a new managing partner is selected through a transparent auction process.

"Once a new manager is selected through an official process and in accordance with regulations, Bandung Zoo can reopen to the public with better management," he said.

The Bandung City Government ensures that the transition process will prioritize animal protection and the continued management of affected workers. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/bhf)
