PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The local knowledge of the Sundanese people holds various relevant wisdoms to address today's development challenges, ranging from environmental conservation, natural resource management, to food security.

This was conveyed by Monash University Indonesia History Expert, Lutfhi Adam, in the Webinar Maca Babarengan Ensiklopedia Ki Sunda Series 5 with the theme of Forestry and Agriculture 25/9/2026.

In his presentation, resource person Lutfhi explained that the Ki Sunda Encyclopedia is a reference for re-exploring the knowledge, philosophy, and practices of the Sundanese people that can be developed in the current context.

"One way is through the Tritangtu concept, which views humans, nature, and spiritual life as interconnected," he said.

This value is also reflected in the principles of silihasih, silihasah, and silihasuh which emphasize the harmony of human relations with others and the environment.

Ecological wisdom is also evident in the division of the leuweung larangan (forbidden area), leuweung tutupan (covered area), and leuweung baladahan (baladahan area), demonstrating spatial management based on ecological function. The concept of patanjala (watershed) also emphasizes the importance of maintaining the connection between upstream and downstream areas through water management.

In the food sector, the huma, leuit, and talun garden systems demonstrate the community's knowledge in maintaining soil fertility, storing food reserves, and maintaining biodiversity.

This knowledge can be combined with modern science and technology to support sustainable development, including in spatial planning, disaster mitigation, environmental management, and strengthening food security.

Sundanese wisdom does not stop as a legacy of the past, but can continue to be developed into a source of knowledge to answer today's challenges.
