PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. GARUT - Acting Regent of Garut, Barnas Adjidin attended the 2024 National Disaster Management Coordination Meeting (RAKORNAS PB). This activity was held at the Pullman Hotel, Bandung City, Wednesday (24/4/2024).

This activity was officially opened by the Vice President (Wapres) of the Republic of Indonesia, Kyai Ma'ruf Amin.

On this occasion, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia conveyed several directions, one of which was related to last year's natural disasters, where there were many hydrometeorological disasters.

He reminded all stakeholders to work together to innovate to provide technology that can detect disasters. He added that artificial intelligence (AI) technology can help monitor potential disasters.

"Artificial intelligence technology will be useful for monitoring potential disasters, developing early warning systems, increasing disaster mitigation capacity, and minimizing disaster risks," said Ma'ruf Amin, quoted from a West Java Public Relations press release.

The Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia said that if this could be realized by all stakeholder leaders throughout Indonesia, he believed that disaster risk control could be carried out through structured mapping and integrated with technology.

"This is important to control existing disaster risks, as well as reduce the emergence of new disaster risks," he said.

Apart from that, he emphasized the importance of strengthening disaster services through strengthening BPBD institutions both in terms of authority, human resource competency, logistics and equipment. Apart from that, he also advised that post-disaster policies and recovery efforts be implemented.

"To ensure that there is a proportional distribution of roles between the center and the regions, in order to build community resilience and independence and reduce the risk of disasters in the future," he said.

In order to make all this happen, Ma'ruf Amin hopes that regional governments will collaborate with the central government in financing schemes to deal with disasters.

"I ask that a disaster management financing scheme be implemented to overcome the gap in regional disaster management budgets. One of these can be done through utilizing the Joint Disaster Management Fund for regions, which is adjusted to the level of risk," he said. (Diskominfo Garut/Revo)
