PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - To commemorate Bandung Sea of Fire (BLA), the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) held a wreath-laying at the Cikutra National Heroes Cemetery, Monday (24/3/2025).
The flower-laying began with a ceremony led directly by the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan. The flower-laying was carried out on the graves of heroes and former leaders, including at the Tomb of Solihin GP (Former Member of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia), HR Noh Yogie (Former Governor of West Java and Minister of Home Affairs), Aang Kunaefi (Former Governor of West Java and Indonesian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia), and Husen Wangsaatmadja (Former Mayor of Bandung).
On this occasion, the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, invited the residents of Bandung to continue to ignite the fire of enthusiasm as a symbol of the struggle of the heroes.
"Today, we commemorate the Bandung Sea of Fire incident, when the fighters were willing to burn down the city of Bandung to defend independence," he said.
Today, 79 years ago, the city of Bandung witnessed a heroic event for the Indonesian nation. At that time, thousands of torches were lit, and within seven hours, Bandung turned into a magnificent blaze.
The residents burned Bandung so that the Allied Forces and the Netherlands Indies Civil Administration (NICA) were unable to occupy the city as a military headquarters.
This year, the commemoration of Bandung Lautan Api carries the theme "United Spirit for Bandung Utama in Supporting Advanced Indonesia." (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fauziah)
