PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regency Regional Secretary Nurdin Yana stated that it is important to involve the Commitment Making Officer (PPK) in determining the program, so that workers in the construction sector can be protected by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. He emphasized that the cost of this protection is quite affordable, which is only 0.24 percent of the total project budget.

"This means that if 100 million is only 240 thousand for any number of workers, you can imagine what it would be like now when the worker has an accident, who is responsible," said Nurdin Yana, after opening the Monitoring and Evaluation of Construction Services Compliance with BPJS Employment, in the Meeting Room of the Public Service Mall (MPP), Thursday (10/24/2024).

This activity was initiated by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Garut Regency in order to improve protection for workers, especially those involved in government construction projects.

Regional Secretary Nurdin Yana also said that he would submit a proposal to the Acting Regent of Garut to support this policy, so that all workers in the construction sector can be registered with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

"Does he (Acting Regent) agree with this pattern, once again personally and institutionally seeing how when something happens to our society, especially workers," he continued.

He hopes that if something undesirable happens, workers can get protection or death benefits.

He emphasized that without BPJS guarantee, it would be difficult for workers if the company where they work is not responsible for what they experience.

On the other hand, Head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Garut Office Supriatna stated the importance of social security protection for construction workers. According to him, companies are required to register their workers so that the risk of work accidents can be handled by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

The party is synergizing with the local government to ensure that workers in the construction services sector are registered and protected by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, so that when a work accident risk occurs, the cost of handling the accident can be transferred to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

"The hope is that there will be no construction services or project implementation disrupted due to financing that was not previously reserved, which we should have been present and provided protection for when they were not registered, we could not provide services," he said.

He also explained that currently there are 228 construction projects in Garut Regency that have been registered with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, but there are still 61 projects that have not made payments. Therefore, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan together with the local government will continue to encourage all projects to immediately register their workers.

Supriatna hopes that this policy can be realized immediately through a Circular Letter from the Garut Regent to project implementers at the village and SKPD levels, so that protection for construction service workers in Garut Regency can be implemented comprehensively.

"And there is no more confusion in terms of the implementation of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership registration and protection for all construction service workers in Garut Regency is 100 percent implemented," he said. (Garut Communication and Information Service/Revo)
