PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin directly opened the 2024 National Disaster Management Coordination Meeting (Rakornas PB), at Pullman Grand Central Bandung, Wednesday (24/4).

On this occasion, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin highlighted disaster events in 2023 which were dominated by wet hydrometeorological disasters and that there were still many areas that had a high level of disaster risk index.

For this reason, in order to reduce the impacts and risks of increasingly complex disasters, the Vice President provided points of direction to the participants of the 2024 PB National Coordination Meeting.

As for the first direction, the Vice President asked for the development of industrialization of disaster management by applying technology and innovation by taking advantage of technological developments and artificial intelligence.

According to the Vice President, artificial intelligence technology will be useful for monitoring potential disasters, developing early warning systems, increasing disaster mitigation capacity, and minimizing disaster risks.

Second, the Vice President said that disaster risk mapping could be carried out accurately and validly. Then the results of the mapping are integrated into planning and implementation related to spatial planning, the environment and natural resources.

"This is important to control existing disaster risks, as well as reduce the risk of new disasters," said Vice President Ma'ruf AmiN in a vice presidential press release.

Next, thirdly, the Vice President emphasized that disaster services could be strengthened. According to the Vice President, this can be done through strengthening BPBD institutions both in terms of authority, human resource competency, logistics and equipment.

Then in his next direction, the Vice President asked for the implementation of post-disaster recovery policies and efforts. He also reminded us to ensure that there is a proportional distribution of roles between the center and the regions, in order to build community resilience and independence and reduce the risk of disasters in the future.

As for the final direction, the Vice President advised to be able to organize and plan financing for disaster management activities in an integrative and non-overlapping manner.

"I ask that a disaster management financing scheme be implemented to overcome the gap in disaster management budgets in the regions. One way this can be done is through utilizing the Joint Disaster Management Fund for regions, which is adjusted to the level of risk," concluded the Vice President.
