PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Regional Secretary of West Java Province, Herman Suryatman, accompanied the working visit of the Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Saifullah Yusuf, along with the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Jabo Priyono, in a social service activity for cataract surgery at the Dr. M. Salamun Air Force Hospital (RSAU), Bandung City, Friday (7/3/2025).
This social service activity was held in collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs with the Indonesian Eye Specialist Association (PERDAMI), the Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation (YPP), and the dr. M. Salamun Bandung Air Force Hospital. More than 200 underprivileged patients underwent cataract surgery which lasted for three days, from March 6-8, 2025.
The Minister of Social Affairs, who is familiarly called Gus Ipul, said that his party continues to strive to expand the reach of cataract surgery for people in need. He emphasized the importance of support from medical personnel and funding so that similar activities can reach more beneficiaries.
"Indeed, more people still need to be involved, besides the costs, we also need the expertise of doctors. We will continue to strive to make cataract surgery accessible to more people who need it," he said.
Furthermore, he explained that cataract surgery is an effort to improve the quality of life expectancy of the Indonesian people from a health perspective.
"As is known, as our life expectancy continues to increase, of course there are more people who need cataract surgery. Because one of the causes of cataracts is age," he said.
