PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is ready to support the construction of the People's School initiated by the Ministry of Social Affairs. However, the city of Bandung is still constrained by the availability of land.

"We were asked to donate 5 hectares. There is no 5 hectares. We only have a maximum of 2 hectares," said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan, at Bandung City Hall, Monday (4/21/2025).

Geographical conditions and land limitations in urban areas make this demand difficult to fulfill.

As a solution, the construction of the People's School will adjust the availability of land with the concept of a multi-storey building.

"So it looks like the building has to be multi-storey. That the land is not sufficient, well, let's just discuss it," he said.

This People's School will carry the concept of "one roof". All educational expansion is provided in one complex.

This school is specifically for families receiving social assistance registered in the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS) and the Family Hope Program (PKH).

"The public schools are all under one roof. There are special ones for those who are eligible for social assistance. The construction is all by the Ministry of Social Affairs, we only provide the land," he said.

The selection of beneficiary citizens is carried out by the Ministry of Social Affairs by referring to official data.

"It's in DTKS, there's PKH. Let's wait for the complete data. Alhamdulillah, so far Bandung is one of the best for updating DTKS data," he said.

Farhan also emphasized that the People's School program is different from the Vulnerable to Continuing Education (RMP) program.

"If RMP is different again. It is included in the RMP program, not the People's School. RMP is usually a private school that must be redeemed, a diploma or something like that," he said. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/UPI)
